Serenade
Two of my favorite, lighter, classical works are Samuel Barber's Adagio
for Strings and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings.
I decided to take a shot at the genre and this is the result.
In the first
section, the melody is played five times in the second violins, with the
first violins, violas, and eventually
the cellos taking turns accompanying the melody. This section was
composed on a Commodore 64 running Music Shop for MIDI which allowed no
expression or interesting timing. I transferred it into Bars and Pipes
Pro running on my Amiga and made all the necessary changes.
The remainder of song was composed in two more pieces, with several
months going by between them. Finally, the original theme reappears and
it all gets loud and stops.
If you've got a string section laying around - this might be a fun piece
to play (fun for me, probably).
