Mother Goose
Mother Goose
2010
In a seemingly, endless parade of badly done covers, here’s the latest. I’ve loved the Jethro Tull album Aqualung for many years. This song popped up on the car stereo two days in a row and on the way home I got the idea to try to record my own version of it. I spent a lot of the next week and a half learning and practicing the guitar part.
This version is from December 26th and adds the bass and percussion and a few other tweaks; this is probably where I’m going to leave it. The point for me was to learn how it was done, not so much to make a perfect copy.
The graphic at the right shows the editing session. Starting from the top are the vocals, the recorders, the acoustic guitars, the electric guitar, bass and percussion.
For what it’s worth, all the parts were played by me, including banging away with some drumsticks on a little DD-5 drum pad played back on some nicer gear. In short, I had a lot of fun working this out.

An Exercise for the Student
Mother Goose is the fourth track on the Jethro Tull album Aqualung - if you don’t have that album, I highly recommend it.
